There’s something to be said about two people that can consistently craft and deliver a stellar collaborative product, blending together their individual styles and creativity, opening up a whole other dimension of their music. Today we highlight six pairings that have been putting out some crazy content and building up a buzz that just can’t be ignored. From Maryland to Chicago to Baton Rouge, we’re all over the map on this one.
April + VISTA
April + VISTA are one of the most impressive acts coming out of the DMV’s talent-filled scene, as their refreshingly soulful sound impresses time and time again. With VISTA laying some stellar production through his unique, outside-the-box style, and April plain kills the shit with her incredible voice and songwriting, and has us more excited than ever for what they’ll do next. Keep an eye on these two, as they’re sure to be blowing up soon.
gianni & kyle
gianni & kyle are another duo from the DMV area that have been making a lot of noise, and are still riding high off of their well-received debut project Backstreet Boy Meets World. With over two million total streams in just two months, the Maryland natives have gained a crazy fanbase through their pop-hop sound that they’ve carefully crafted with in-house producers Kojo and Nicky Quinn. Now that the heat from the project is dying down a bit, fans can expect them to drop some new shit soon.
I don’t know a ton about Gosh Pith, but I do know they’re fucking amazing. They have such a dope chemistry between the vocals and production, and consistently add up for A1 ballads. With a couple of big songs on Soundcloud and Spotify, it’s clear that they’re heating up as we near the summer, and for good reason—they’re seamless blend of genres appeal to so many different audiences, and I firmly believe they’re poised for great things.
Chicago natives New Kingz have had some strong releases in the last year, and their signature chemistry that bleeds through their potent raps is what has us anxiously awaiting more from them soon. They have a knack for weaving together strong verses with even better hooks, and we think that they are one of the next great acts coming out of Chicago.
Maine Musik & TEC
You’d be hard-pressed to find a hotter duo than Maine Musik & TEC, and the Baton Rouge rappers are coming for their crowns in 2017. With millions of views on Youtube and strong solo efforts, these two are the total package and really keep that southern sound alive with a new school swag that makes them one of the most polarizing duos coming up right now. Aside from their catchy hooks, both of these guys can actually fuckin’ rap, and we can’t wait to see them fully breakout and do big things.
Iris Temple burst onto Chicago’s music scene with a bang, and haven’t slowed down since. They have such a special sound and style that sews together elements of soul, hip-hop, jazz and more for an ultra-enlivening listen every time. Aura and Quinn truly have a one of a kind bond musically, and we’re extremely excited to see (and hear) what else they create.
